Falkland Islands

Falkland Islands

Background - I have had the opportunity to visit the Falkland Islands twice.  The diversity of wildlife is simply phenomenal.  One of my goals since I started photography was to take pictures of the penguins in the Falkland Islands. You will find four types of penguins, the Rockhopper, Gentoo, King and Magellanic.  Due to the lack of visitors to the Falklands, wildlife can be photographed very close by approaching from a safe distance, after which, they will approach you which allows close-up photography.

The best time of year to photograph in the Falkland Islands is from November through February.  The temperatures are usually in the 50s and 60s Fahrenheit. Flights to the Falkland Islands from the United States work best through Santiago, Chile. Flight plans must take into account Saturday-only departures and arrivals between Santiago and the Falkland Islands. You should plan for a minimum of a two-week stay in the Falklands.

Introduction - The Falkland Islands are truly a joy and pleasure to photograph. I can't think of many other places I would rather visit. If you have the opportunity to go, do so.
