Antarctica & Vicinity

Background - I recently had a once in a lifetime chance to visit South Georgia and Antarctica. Included in this trip was a two day visit to the Falkland Islands. What a unique experience! The quantity and diversity of wildlife would be hard to find anywhere else.

Several types of penguins exist there including the Adele, Chinstrap, Macaroni, King, and Gentoo. Numerous varieties of birds, mammals and stunning landscapes await the visitor. The wildlife does not see many people and thus intimate viewing is very possible.

The best time to visit the area is from November to February. The temperatures will be around freezing. Shipboard travel is the only real way to do this. Plan to stay a minimum of two weeks and more if time allows. The vast majority of shipboard travel will start and end in Ushuaia, Argentina.

If you ever get a chance to visit, do not pass up on the opportunity!!
